Join us for this international expedition when we travel to beautiful Costa Rica. We will start our trip in the Sarapiqui region, north of San Jose’s capital city. There we will have ample opportunity to photograph waterfalls and plenty of wildlife, including amazing hummingbirds, monkeys, sloths, butterflies and reptiles. From there, we head east to the Turrialba region, where we will spend two days photographing sunrises, coffee plantations, waterfalls, snakes, birds, gardens and the most important cathedral in Costa Rica. We will end our trip in the Central Pacific region of the country, where we will see beautiful beaches, sunsets, crocodiles, monkeys, shorebirds, spectacular parrots and more. The vast array of photo opportunities will allow participants to sharpen all their skills in one trip. Cost includes ground transportation (private mini-bus), full-time driver and English-speaking guide, 8 nights’ accommodations, all meals and instruction. Milky Way and Fall Colors on the Blue Ridge Parkway Expedition (Brevard, NC)
October 16-17, 2017 (Monday-Tuesday)
Cost: $200 ($150 if added on to Waterfall trip)
Join us on our first expedition to do Astrophotography of the Milky Way (weather permitting) in the NC Mountains as well as photograph fall colors on the Blue Ridge Parkway the next day. We will meet in Brevard, NC around 6:30pm immediately following our Autumn Waterfall Expedition.. We should be able to start shooting the nighttime images around 8pm and will hopefully be done around 10 to arrive back in Brevard that night. The required equipment is a camera, sturdy tripod, regular or wide-angle lens and a remote. The next day we will have breakfast at the hotel and then head up to the Parkway to spend the day shooting fall colors. Lunch will be provided and then we will end around late afternoon. Price includes private hotel accommodation for one night, breakfast and lunch the next day and instruction.

Butterfly House at NC Museum of Life and Science (Durham, NC)
This Expedition will give you the chance to photograph both plants and animals in the Butterfly House as well as other scenes at the NC Museum of Life and Science in Durham (433 West Murray Ave). Admission is included in your registration. We will then head first to the butterfly house and spend some time shooting and learning more about techniques to get great images. We will have the entire butterfly house to ourselves for the first hour and a half of the time. There are also other outdoor and indoor exhibits featuring animals that we can photograph as well. The formal trip will end at 1pm but you are welcome to stay longer. No transportation is provided to this Expedition but a list of those traveling from Charlotte who want to carpool can be shared to organize riding together. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 12. Autumn Waterfall Expedition (Brevard, NC)

Photograph some of the most beautiful waterfalls and fall autumn colors in the mountains with a pro by your side! This trip will not only give participants the chance to shoot 3 different waterfalls but will also have two computer editing teaching sessions to complete the waterfall photography process from beginning to end. Old Salem Expedition (Winston-Salem, NC)
October 29, 2016 (Saturday) 7am-6pm
We will be meeting at the Holiday Inn in Pineville at 7:00am where we will be providing transportation to the Old Salem in Winston-Salem (about 1.5 hours). We will spend the day going around taking in the autumn colors, architecture and period costumes. Our team will be there to help, offer hints and to make sure you get the images that you want. We will have lunch at the Old Salem Tavern (included). Everyone will also get access to the building tours so that they can take pictures inside some of the buildings as well (included). After spending the rest of the afternoon we will leave the town around 4:30 to be back in Charlotte around 6:00pm. Every year participants get incredible shots of Old Salem in the peak of fall color.

This is your chance to photograph bald eagles, osprey (including feeding), blue herons and more. Please note that this expedition takes place near Richmond, VA which is about 5 hours from Charlotte and transportation is on your own. We will meet at the Courtyard Marriott in Chester, VA on the day before our morning tour around 4pm. After check in and a short instructional time we will go to dinner (included). If the weather is good that evening, we will then go up to Richmond where we can do a neat skyline shoot of the city. We will leave the hotel the next morning just before sunrise around 6:30am to head to the location where we get on our boat tour. The tour will be from 7-10am and is limited to 4 participants plus myself and the captain who will get us to various wildlife, set us up to get images of the birds diving in for food and many other shooting opportunities. After the tour, we can check out of our hotel and have lunch together (included) before everyone departs for home.. Cost includes the boat tour fee, overnight lodging, all meals and instruction. Oregon Coast and Mountain Expedition 2018

Oregon is a photographer's paradise and The Photo Classroom has been taking photographers out there for years. The trip will begin in Portland after lunch on the first day when we will head out to the Columbia River Gorge for two and a half days of sunsets, waterfalls and Mt. Hood. On the third day of our expedition, we will go to the coast for 3 days touring lighthouses at sunset, rocky coastlines, monoliths and much more. Cataloochee Elk Preserve (GSMNP/Asheville)
September 18-19, 2017 (Monday-Tuesday)
Based on one of the highlight trips last year, we will be offering again in 2016 the chance to photograph elk and so much more. Cataloochee Elk Preserve is located about 45 mins from Asheville so our trip will begin by meeting at the Courtyard Marriott in Ashville on Sunday afternoon at 2pm. We will hopefully be able to check in and then will provide transportation to the Elk Preserve. We will photograph the elk in the late afternoon light and catch a mountain sunset. After a late dinner we will get some rest before leaving early the next morning to go back photograph not only the elk but also picturesque valley and century old buildings including a barn, farmhouse and church. We will meet in York, SC and talk about some of the composition and exposure options for capturing fields of sunflowers. We will then spend about 2 hours photographing a variety of fields. Cost $60

• Trips have a minimum number of participants who have to register for the Expedition to take place. In addition, all of the Expeditions have a maximum number of participants in order to keep the instructor to student ratio around 1 to 5. Register early with your deposit to guarantee your spot as we are often at sold out capacity. Refunds are only given if The Photo Classroom cancels an Expedition for any reason. Arizona Expedition 2017

This expedition takes you participants to Arizona to experience some of the most classic landscapes of the Southwest. We Start in Phoenix for the first night and then head to the Sedona area and Grand Canyon for two days. Then we go to Page, AZ. Here we get to capture the beautiful oranges and reds of slot canyons as well as Horseshoe Bend and more. All of these are iconic photographic opportunities. We finally return to Phoenix after our week of travel. Cost includes ground transportation from Phoenix, 6 nights private accommodations, all meals and instruction as well as canyon tour fees. Zoo Expedition (Columbia, SC)
April 1, 2017 (Saturday 7am-6pm)
We will be meeting at the Holiday Inn Express in Pineville at 7:00am where we will be providing transportation to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC (about 1.5 hours). We will spend the day going around the zoo as an informal group. My team and I will be there to help, offer hints and to make sure you get the images that you want. We will stop for lunch around 12:00pm. After spending the rest of the afternoon we will leave the zoo around 4:30 to be back in Charlotte around 6:00pm. This expedition takes you participants to Hawaii to the island of Maui to experience some of the most varied landscape opportunities. Based out of a resort in Kihei and then another one on the famous Kaanapali beach, we will take half day and day trips throughout the week to Haleakala crater at sunrise, the black sand beach, Garden of Eden, the Road to Hana, the North Shore, Iao valley and more. We will catch a few sunset right from our hotels in the evening and be sure to take in Luau as well. On this expedition, there will also be more down time for enjoying the beach, snorkeling on your own, etc. Spouses can decide each day to join us on our photography trip or to stay at the resort for relaxation. Cost includes ground transportation in Maui, 6 nights private accommodations, all meals and instruction as well as admission fees, etc.. Airline travel to and from Maui is the participant's responsibility. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 8.
Photography Trips and Expeditions
Our Photography Expeditions offer the best opportunity to learn hands-on and have fun doing so with a wide range of places and subjects. Our trips often are all-inclusive including meals, admission, overnight accommodations as well as ground transportation and instruction. In addition, we have a 1 to 5 teacher to student ratio which makes sure that you get assistance and can learn even more while you are shooting. Registrations for each trip can be made below. Raptor Center Expedition
March 12, 2017 (Sunday, 1:30-3:30pm)
Cost: $90 (Expedition is FULL)
This expedition will allow our group to have access to the Raptor Center near Latta Plantation where birds such as owls, eagles and hawks will be on display outside of their enclosures for great photographic opportunities. The shoot will take place from 1:30-3:30pm during which we will have various birds rotated and posed on natural looking backgrounds. While a checklist of settings will be sent out prior to the event, a telephoto lens, tripod or monopod and even a flash will give plenty of opportunities to practice wildlife photography.
The price includes exclusive for our group, basic instruction including a checklist of settings and admission. Minimum 10 participants, maximum 25. For couples or guests, the second person can attend for half price when registering together.
