2012 Expeditions
Our Photo Expeditions offer the best opportunity to learn hands-on and have fun doing so with a wide range of places and subjects. Our trips often are all-inclusive including meals, admission, overnight accomodations as well as ground transportation and instruction. In addition, we have a 1 to 5 teacher to student ratio which makes sure that you get assistance and can learn even more while you are shooting. Registrations for each trip can be made below. Butterfly House at NC Museum of Life and Science (Raleigh, NC) - Expedition is FULL
Feb. 12 (Sunday)
Cost: $90
This Brand New Expedition will give you the chance to photograph both plants and animals in the Butterfly House as well as other scenes at the NC Museum of Life and Science in Durham (433 West Murray Ave). We will meet at the front door of the museum at 11:45am on Sunday, Feb. 12th. Admission is included in your registration. We will then head first to the butterfly house and spend some time shooting and learning more about techniques to get great images. There are also other outdoor and indoor exhibits featuring animals that we can photograph as well. The formal trip will end at 4pm but you are welcome to stay longer. No transportation is provided to this Expedition but a list of those traveling from Charlotte who want to carpool can be shared to organize riding together. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 12.
Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens - Belmont, NC - 2 Spots Remain
February 27 (Monday)
Cost: $75
Meet us at the front door of DSBG www.dsbg.org at 9:00am and spend the morning exploring the gardens and the orchid conservatory. This is a great chance to learn more about macro photography so bring your close-up filters or macro lens if you have one as well as your tripod. You'll get stunning images and have lots of fun! Expedition fee includes admission. Minimum 6 participants, maximum 15
Charleston Expedition – Charleston, SC - Expedition is FULL
March 23-25 (Friday-Sunday)
Cost $875 with transportation (Spouses $425)
This brand new expedition with take us to beautiful Charleston, SC for a variety of architecture, nighttime, flower and many other types of photography. Leaving on Friday, March 23rd around 9am, we will head to Charleston and spend the later afternoon in the historic district. Following dinner, we will photograph the bridge at night. Saturday morning we will return to the downtown area to do more architecture work. Then we will head out to a beautiful plantation for lunch and an afternoon of shooting. That evening as well as first thing on Sunday morning will be some additional photography opportunities before heading back to Charlotte. Price includes meals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as two nights accomodations at the SpringHill Suites just outside Historic Downtown on the river, instruction and entry fees. Minimum 4 participants, maximum 8
Zoo Expedition – Columbia, SC - 3 Spots Remain
April 14 (Saturday) Rain Date is April 22nd
Cost: $175
We will be meeting at the Holiday Inn Express in Pineville at 7:00am where we will be providing transportation to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC (about 1.5 hours). We will spend the day going around the zoo as an informal group. My team and I will be there to help, offer hints and to make sure you get the images that you want. We will stop for lunch around 12:00pm. After spending the rest of the afternoon we will leave the zoo around 4:30 to be back in Charlotte around 6:00pm. Spring Waterfall Expedition (Brevard, NC) - Expedition is FULL
May 5-6 (Saturday-Sunday)
Cost: $375
Photograph some of the most beautiful waterfalls and green lush colors in the mountains with a pro by your side! This trip will not only give participants the chance to shoot 3 different waterfalls but will also have two computer editing teaching sessions to complete the waterfall photography process from beginning to end. Oregon Coast Expedition (Portland, OR)
June 18-24* (Monday-Sunday)
Cost: $2000 ($2250 with extra day at Mt. St. Helens on June 24th departing on the 25th)
Photograph gorgeous coastlines in scenic Oregon with our team as your tour guides. Trip includes 6 nights lodging, all meals, ground transportation and instruction. The trip will begin on the 18th outside Portland at the Heathman Lodge. We will leave the next day for 4 days at the coast photographing Bandon, Haceta Head Lighthouse, Oregon Sand Dunes, Yaquina Head Lighthouse as well as the famous Cannon Beach with its haystacks. Then we return to the Portland area to take in the Columbia River Gorge. An optional day will be spent at Mt. St. Helens. Participants of past Oregon trips all agree that this experience offers one of the widest range of scenic photo opportunities possible. Old Salem Expedition – Winston-Salem, NC
November 3 (Saturday)
Cost: $175
We will be meeting at the Hampton Inn in Pineville at 7:30am where we will be providing transportation to the Old Salem in Winston-Salem (about 1.5 hours). We will spend the day going around taking in the autumn colors, architecture and period costumes. Our team will be there to help, offer hints and to make sure you get the images that you want. We will have lunch at the Old Salem Tavern (included). After spending the rest of the afternoon we will leave the town around 4:30 to be back in Charlotte around 6:00pm. Additional Notes
• Reduced rates for a spouse or guest accompanying a participant are available on most Expeditions. Call or email for more information.
• Trips have a minimum number of participants who have to register for the Expedition to take place. In addition, all of the Expeditions have a maximum number of participants in order to keep the instructor to student ratio around 1 to 5. Register early with your deposit to guarantee your spot as we are often at sold out capacity. Refunds are only given if The Photo Classroom cancels an Expedition for any reason. We are not responsible for travel expenses already incurred and we highly recommend travel insurance.
• Participation in any Expedition requires each participant to sign a Release. To request a copy of this release, please email us.
